Proximity: Close to You

How has moving next to a student who is disrupting and teaching from that position served as an intervention? Do you always teach from behind your desk? What would happen if you did not? What works?

  1. I have noticed that when I do have students who are disruptive in class and I move them to the front of class, where I teach from, they usually do better in class. Some students will ask me if they are good if they can move back to where they were. Sometimes I will tell them if they are good for a week or so, they can move back. That is not the case for all students. I have found out that if I walk around the whole classroom, it keeps the class as a whole quieter.
