Nagging or Teaching: Nixing the Nag

How do you remind students about classroom rules without coming across as a nag? How often do you go over the rules? If you are going over the rules too often, what does that tell you? What works? What does not?

  1. We have class rights in our classroom. The students created the rights and a poster that they each signed. When one of the rights is violated, we talk about how it was violated, how it needs to be fixed, and a plan for future problems...not just I won't do it, but an actual PLAN! Having them create their own rights has created an ownership for them, and they all respect each others rights for the most part.
